20/07/05: Lorenzo Castore
Paradiso.

Leica European Publishers Award for Photography 2005.

The winning color photographs taken by the 32 year-old Italian photographer Lorenzo Castore were shot in Havana and Mexico City and show both metropolitan citiesin a light which that not be further away from the conventional steroptypes.

The aim of the photographer is to portray feelings and ideas and to tell stories with his pictures. At first glance his photographs appear to depict subjects of secondary importance: people in bars, back yards, dimly lit streets and narrow halls, or simply passers-by. Using light and color he creates an intensive atmosphere and mood which tell the story of the people living in these places.

Although he's in the midst of the action, he does not intrude like an inquisitive reporter but allows the camera to run over the subject as if in passing and captures moments of intimate insight without revealing their secrets.

Lorenzo Castore works with the LEICA M6. His lens of choice is the latest range of the LEICA SUMMILUX-M 1:1.4/35mm ASPH. and the LEICA SUMMICRON-M1:2/35mm.
