The Pueblo de los Ángeles was the second town created during the Spanish colonization of the Alta California portion of the territory of Las Californias.

El Pueblo de Los Angeles is where the city began in 1781, founded by King Carlos III of Spain to grow food for the soldiers. A surprising 27 buildings survive here, including the Avila Adobe, the city's oldest structure built in 1818 and the city's oldest brick house.

The most popular activity in this historic district is shopping, and it's a wonder this area isn't called Mexicotown for the Mexican market along Olvera Street, originally named for a local judge and converted into a market in the 1930s.

La siesta!!!

El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles (the Town of Our Lady Queen of the Angels) was the Spanish civilian pueblo founded in 1781, which by the 20th century became the American metropolis of Los Angeles.

The small chapel, also called "La Placita" and "the Plaza Church," served the total Californio and immigrant Roman Catholic community as the only church in the vicinity of the City of Los Angeles until the 1876 construction of the Cathedral of Saint Vibiana.

The Avila Adobe, was built in 1818 by Francisco Avila, and has the distinction of being the oldest standing residence in Los Angeles, California. It is located in the paseo of historical Olvera Street, a part of Los Angeles Plaza Historic District, a California State Historic Park.
